Planning Commission Agenda August 24 2

What is the Planning Commission and what do they do?

In Pennsylvania, a “planning commission plays a major role in giving advice and providing recommendations to a governing body [in our case its Borough Council]. Today, land use is an important issue at the local and state level. Land use planning is a topic among state agencies, county and local governments, business and industry, charitable and private foundations, as well as environmental organizations. A planning commission is on the front-line regarding land use issues. Its job is to advise locally elected officials on planning and community development matters.”  This info in parentheses comes from the PA Dept of Community and Economic Development website at www.dced.pa.gov. For a more in-depth overview of Planning Commission, you can visit that site and keep reading.

Often, land development- whether it be an addition to a home or business, a new building or a new development- goes to our Planning Commission for presentation, review, revision and approval long before the topic goes to Council for a vote.  PC meets the third Thursday of the month at the borough office.
